Barcelona's story begins in Neolithic times, but it was the Romans who gave the city its first shape — founding a walled colony called Barcino at the end of the first century BC. Those ancient walls still stand in the old town today. Over the centuries that followed, the city passed through Muslim rule, Christian reconquest, and medieval glory as the political and economic capital of the Western Mediterranean. The Gothic Quarter — its lanes, palaces and cathedral — is the living record of that golden age.
The 19th century transformed Barcelona again. A period of industrial revival and cultural renaissance known as the Renaixença saw the Catalan language restored as a literary force and the city reimagined from the ground up. The result was the Eixample — that perfectly gridded district of wide boulevards and chamfered corners that surrounds you now — and the flowering of Modernisme: the Catalan Art Nouveau movement that gave the world Gaudí, Domènech i Montaner, and a skyline unlike any other on earth.
The 20th century brought turbulence — Civil War, dictatorship, and suppression — before democracy returned in 1978 and Barcelona reclaimed itself. The 1992 Olympic Games recast the waterfront and announced the city's return to the world stage. Today it stands as one of Europe's great cultural capitals: bold, proud, and gloriously itself. For September, you'll find it at its finest — the summer crowds thinned, the light turning golden in the late afternoon, and the temperature hovering around 26°C, made for long evenings outdoors.
I live in the Eixample district, which is right smack in the middle of excitement! My home address is Rambla de Catalunya 71, and all hotel recommendations are within close proximity to my home. It's my intention for this weekend to be a celebration of my truly blessed life. I am eternally grateful for every joy and every setback that has led me to this marvelous moment. I am particularly thankful for the wonderful friends and family who have been my biggest cheerleaders — I could not imagine celebrating this with anyone else.
The goal is simple: eat, play, laugh, dance, drink, and pray. I'm even more excited to welcome you to the city I now call home. As you will see, Barcelona is the most enchanting place on earth, and I feel doubly fortunate to be able to live here.
The weekend moves between the city and the coast, from an intimate welcome dinner to a main celebration, with afternoons to explore, rest, and simply enjoy one another's company.
More details on each event will be shared closer to September. For now, hold the dates — and know that everything has been planned with you in mind.
This page is to display a gallery of photos during the birthday celebrations! I can't wait to see the memories we all record!
